Special Lecture: Visiting Professor Deborah Britzman

Along with the Faculty of Arts and Science, the School of Graduate Studies, the Faculty of Education, we are pleased to invite you to attend the following events:

 

1. The Vast Unfinished Business of the Writing Block: a psychoanalytic contribution to to understanding writing anxieties and inhibitions in the University.

The lecture is being presented by Professor Deborah Britzman on Thursday, February 1, in Duncan McArthur Hall, room A237 at 4:00 pm.

This lecture discusses the writing block as opening a particular emotional configuration that gives way to fantasies of relationality as the writer feels called upon to be original, worries about plagiarism, write the the ideal paper, experience anxieties over the paper’s reception, and wish for a perfect meaning.

 

2. Psychoanalysis in the Classroom: History, Pedagogy, and Research

A fireside chat with visiting Professor Deborah Britzman and Queen's Geography Professor Laura Cameron will take place Friday, February 2 at 11:00 am in the Alan G. Green Fireplace Reading Room in Stauffer Library.
