The proposals deadline for OLA is one week away and Gail Nichol, who is one of the OCULA organizers, has suggested that OELIG could consider submitting a proposal for a session or a roundtable. Any themes of interest out there?

New federated search portal: Scitopia

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

An interesting new search portal:
Thirteen science and technology societies from across the world are set to launch scitopia.org, a free federated vertical search portal, in a bid to create more direct access to their collective content. The new portal, to be launched in June 2007, will enable users to explore the research most cited in scholarly work and patents in a single click.

Founding partners include the American Geophysical Union, American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics, American Institute of Physics, American Physical Society, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Electrochemical Society, IEEE, Institute of Physics Publishing, Optical Society of America, SPIE, Society of Automotive Engineers and Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Other organisations will be invited to join as the project progresses.

Access to actual content will still of course be via institution subscriptions.

Ontario Building Code 2006 online

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

Does anyone have any experience with a service called Orderline?

According to their site, Orderline sells the OBC 2006 in various formats, including online. But when we asked about the advantages/differences between their online product and the e-laws version they could not say. They would not make a trial or preview available to us either.
We had been looking around for an online product superior to the e-laws but gave up on this idea. I’m curious to know what your experience has been.
