All of these e-books and other print books can be searched on QCAT

If the book is available in print check the location to find out which library has your book (Stauffer, Eng/Sci etc) and the call number tells you where to find it on the shelf (Engineering and Science Library floorplans). If the book is out on loan you can place a hold on it.

Standards and Codes

Indexes to Standards

AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction)

ASTM Standards
Full-text access to active ASTM standards

CSA Online Subscription Service (Canadian Standards Association)
Full-text access to the entire collection of CSA standards and standard-related documents. Please Note:

  • If you're using your personal computer/laptop, please make sure that FileOpen Plug-in for Adobe Acrobat/Reader is installed, you can download it from http://plugin.fileopen.com/
  • The database is too slow compared to other databases when you open a PDF document, please wait till the document is fully loaded and opened.
  • Please use Internet Explorer to access the database.

Global Engineering Documents
This service indexes national, international and industry standards. Use keywords or document number to identify standards or search for known ones to check currency.

Searches National and International Standards

Search the history of standards and their current status, please note that we do not have subscription to this collection, but it is a good starting point to define the needed standards for your project.

List of Standards compiled by the University of Waterloo
Most standards writing organizations(e.g. ANSI and CSA) maintain indexes to their own standards at their web sites. The University of Waterloo Library keeps a comprehensive list of these organizations.

Ordering Standards

You can purchase standards from the organizations themselves or services such as Global Engineering Documents. Remember to check Queen’s library collection before ordering.
