About Us

The Bracken Health Sciences Library serves faculty, staff, students and health professionals who study, work, and conduct research in the health science disciplines of medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and the life sciences. The library provides access to print books and journals as well as full-text e-books and a comprehensive collection of full-text e-journals. The Library is actively selecting a wide array of e-resources for convenient desktop access. These include citation databases, image and video collections, and point-of-care decision-making tools to support evidence-based practice. In addition, the Library collects software and other web-based resources to facilitate self-directed learning and accommodate different learning styles and teaching methodologies.

The Bracken Health Sciences Library is located in Botterell Hall, which is situated near the corner of Stuart and Barrie Streets. The main floor of the library is known as CHEER (the Centre for Health Electronic Education Resources) and is home to Circulation & Reserve, Reference and Education Services, and Document Services. Additionally, on the first floor you will find the reference collection, SunRay stations, interactive computer pod tables, the videoconference facility, open area meeting spaces and small group rooms.

The e-Laboratory, also located on the main floor, is equipped with an instructor's podium and 24 laptop work stations used for both information access and training by Queen's University faculty, staff and students. The laptops in the e-lab can be used by students during our day-time hours when there are no on-site teaching sessions.  During the summer months, the e-laboratory is closed unless booked for teaching sessions.  The entire library is a wireless environment, allowing for laptop connections.

The circulating book collection, the non-circulating bound journal collection and unbound non-circulating current journals are located on the lower level of the Bracken Health Sciences Library. The lower floor is designated as quiet study space, and has a reading lounge as well as tables and study carrels.

The Bracken Health Sciences Library has formed outreach partnerships with a number of health care institutions in Southeastern Ontario. Regardless of location, Bracken provides seamless and equitable access to a full array of customized information services such as access to electronic resources, information and reference services, training, and document delivery.
