Queen's University Library

Library Barcode

What is this and how do I get one?

This is NOT your 7 digit student or staff number.

If you are a student, you will already have a library barcode number on the front of your student card. It is a 14 digit number starting with the numbers “29004”. If, for some reason, this number does not work you can simply come to any Queen’s University Library circulation or access services desk during regular business hours and ask that it be entered into the system.

If you are a staff or faculty member of Queen’s University, if you don’t already have a 14 digit number starting with “29004” on the back of your staff card, you will have to come to any Queen’s University Library circulation or access services desk during regular business hours and ask for one. If you don’t have a staff card yet, please contact Queen’s University Human Resources or your departmental administration assistant.

What is it for?

Just like in any electronic information system, each item needs a unique number to act as its “name”. In the library database that keeps track of what books you have borrowed, when they are due, what permissions you have, etc., this library card barcode represents you. You need one if you are borrowing any materials in the library (including laptop computers, and reserve materials kept just for your class), or on some of the library’s online forms such as the one to request documents not currently held in the Queen’s University Library collection.
