The Cochrane Library is designed to provide information and evidence to support decisions taken in health care and to inform those receiving care. The Cochrane Library is made up of six resources that can be searched individually or collectively.

Joanna Briggs Institute
Access to the systematic reviews and best practice sheets created by the Joanna Briggs Institute, an affiliated research unit of the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the University of Adelaide. Collaborating centres focusing on nursing, midwifery and allied health exist worldwide. Queen's University School of Nursing hosts a Joanna Briggs Institute Collaborating Centre.
Natural Standard
Natural Standard provides evidence-based information about complementary and alternative therapies. Validated rating scales are used to measure the quality of available evidence.
NHS Centre for Reviews and Dissemination Databases
The Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD)was established in January 1994 to provide the NHS with important information on the effectiveness of treatments and the delivery and organization of health care. Resources include:

OTseeker: Occupational Therapy Systematic Evaluation of Evidence
Contains abstracts of systematic reviews and randomized controlled trials relevant to occupational therapy. Trials have been critically appraised and rated to assist in evaluation.
Ovid's EBM Reviews Databases
Collection of four Evidence Based Medicine resources that may be searched individually or collectively. Resources include:

PEDro: Physiotherapy Evidence Database
Developed to give rapid access to bibliographic details and abstracts of randomized controlled trials and systematic reviews in physiotherapy. PEDro also contains evidence-based clinical practice guidelines.
ACP's PIER: The Physicians' Information and Education Resource
PIER is a decision-support tool designed for rapid point-of-care delivery of evidence-based guidance for physicians. Modules focus on the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Produced by the American College of Physicians, PIER is updated monthly. Pier can also be downloaded to be used on your Palm PDA.
SUM Search
SUMSearch searches the best Internet sites for a particular query. A single document is returned that organizes the list of links by breadth of discussion. SUMSearch only queries Internet sites that contain evidence written by qualified professionals. The majority of the links provided by SUMSearch come from three Internet sites - the National Library of Medicine, DARE, and the National Guideline Clearinghouse.
TRIP Database
TRIP was created in 1997 to bring together all the 'evidence-based' healthcare resources available on the Internet. This version includes coverage of peer-reviewed journals, medical images and patient information leaflets. The TRIP Database is updated monthly.
