Bracken Staff NewsHere is what some of our people have been doing recently: Paola Durando, Health Sciences Librarian and Liaison to the School of Rehabilitation Therapy gave a presentation at the annual conference of the Upstate New York and Ontario Chapter of the Medical Library Association in Syracuse on October 14: "The Librarian is In: Mandatory Consultations for Formative Assessment of Students' Search Strategies". Gillian Griffith, Clinical Outreach Librarian is visiting the University of Auckland this month. She will be spending a day touring the libraries at the University, meeting with key individuals and learning about their services, resources and processes. She will report on her findings when she returns. Trish Morgan, Senior Systems Support Technician facilitated the holding of the MCC exam in Bracken's e-Laboratory in November. The MCC exams are held here in the spring and fall, and Trish ensures secure access to the exams and that all equipment is functioning properly. Amanda Ross-White, Health Sciences Librarian and Liaison to the School of Nursing is co-conducting a Joanna Briggs Collaboration Systematic Review: "The incidence, prevalence and contributing factors associated with the occurrence of medication errors for children and adults in the community setting: A systematic review". Kim Sears RN PhD and Amanda Ross-White MLIS. Laurie Scott, Head of Research and Education Services has been invited to conduct a workshop on leadership for the Northern Alberta Health Libraries Association in early 2011. Earlier this year, Laurie received the Margaret Ridley Charlton Award for Outstanding Achievement from the Canadian Health Libraries Association. Anne Smithers, Head, Technical & Document Services, has been serving the Queen's Library system as Acting Collections Coordinator since the beginning of September, filling in for a colleague who is on leave. Michelle Swab, MLIS candidate and Library Intern has agreed to stay on at Bracken for a second semester, and will be here until the end of April, 2011. Sarah Wickett, Health Informatics Librarian, will be going on maternity leave in mid-January, 2011. While she is away, please contact Laurie Scott for any informatics requests. Paola Durando, Sandra Halliday, Laurie Scott and Michelle Swab, attended the Annual Meeting of the Ottawa Valley Health Libraries Association, of which Bracken Library is an institutional member. The meeting was held on November 19 and was followed by a tour of the newly renovated University of Ottawa Health Sciences Library. |
