Off Campus Access to Queen's Library Resources

Due to limitations of the current proxy access to Queen's Library's licensed resources, a new kind of access is available to Queen's Health and Life Sciences Faculty.

Starting February 1 2011, you will need to use one of the following services to access Queen's-only library resources from off-campus, including the hospitals:

  1. Connect from Off-Campus: Web Proxy
    • Still the quickest and easiest way to access Queen's-only resources, but with limitations.
    • No software installation or browser configuration required.  Works entirely within a web browser on any computer.
    • Prompts you to login at the 'moment of need'.  You may need to login multiple times whenever new browser windows are spawned.
    • Currently used by most Queen's faculty & students for accessing library resources from off-campus.
  2. Connect from Off-Campus: Library VPN (new service, currently restricted to Health & LIfe Sciences Faculty)
    • Requires installing a VPN client (AnyConnect) on your computer (free, one-click installation).
    • Allows you to control when to begin/end a "connect from off-campus" session.
    • When connected through the VPN, your computer will act as if it is located on the Queen's network.
    • Allows you to link directly to Queen's-only resources from within emails, documents, citation management software, etc.
    • For hospital users the VPN access will not allow access to the KGH clinical desktop (including server-based printers and KGH email).

Queen's NetID

Both "Connect from Off-Campus" options require that you have a valid Queen's NetID

How to obtain a NetID:
Queen's faculty should go through their IT Admin Rep (Information Technology Administration) or the ITServices General Office to acquire your NetID.
