Can I borrow a USB key, a network cable, ... ?

Yes! Different Library locations have different items available for 3 hour loan. Some examples: USB keys, network cables, calculators, headphones, mice, chargers. Search QCAT for items held by different libraries, or ask at the Circulation Desk.

Can I print from my own laptop?

Yes, you can!

Can I view the pictures on my camera at a Library computer?

Yes! Just ask at the Stauffer Library Circulation Desk for the Memory Card Reader.

Can students change languages on Library computers?

Library users are able to switch between input languages / keyboard layouts on the workstations in all campus libraries. On the desktop, open the folder named "Microsoft Office & Other Programs" and follow the instructions under "Change Languages".

How do I get a Library Copy Card?

You can pay for library printing, photocopies, and microform printing using a library copy card.  You can purchase library copy cards at any library location:

  • Circulation desk:
    cash: all libraries
    debit/credit: Stauffer, Bracken
  • Self-serve card machines:
    cash only: Stauffer, Douglas, Bracken and Law libraries

How do I print on only one side of the page (single-sided printing)?

By default, Library printers will print on both sides of the page (double-sided printing).  You can choose to override the default setting and do single-sided printing for individual print jobs.

How do I zip and un-zip my files?

Windows XP has basic built-in zip capability so that you can compress files by using the Compressed (zipped) Folder feature. Folders compressed by using this feature are identified by a zippered folder icon.

To Zip (compress) files:

On Library computers, if you are logged in with your Queen's NetID you can right-click a file, point to "Send To" on the shortcut menu, and then click "Compressed (zipped) Folder". You can then move or copy other files to that folder to compress them.  read more »

How much does photocopying cost?

Self-serve, black-and-white photocopiers are located in each campus library, all with a copy charge of 11 cents per page. In addition, there is one colour photocopier in the library system: it is located in the Stauffer Library Art Collection on the Library's Second Floor and the charge is 55 cents per page.  read more »

  • Standard black & white printing: $0.10 per page
  • Colour printing (available in Stauffer, Douglas and the Education Libraries): $0.60 per page

 

I'm running low on power, where can I get a charger (or cable)

Chargers and cables for most mobile devices are now on reserve.

I'm trying to login on a Library computer but it won't let me - what's up?

The library computers use Queen's NetID for logging in.  You may need to activate your NetID, or change your password:

 

The Library computer crashed: where is the document I was working on?

To be safe, you always should initially choose SAVE AS and decide where you will be saving your file. From that point on while working on the same document, you can just use SAVE anytime you wish to update the contents of your file. NOTE:  read more »

The photocopier is not working. What should I do?

If you have any problems with the machines, the quality of copying or you need value added to your copy card, contact staff at the Circulation Desk.
 

What do I need to use the photocopiers?

To use Queen's Library photocopiers, you will need either:

  • a Library Copy Card

Cards cost $5 ($1 for the card plus $4 of value) and are available for purchase from the Circulation Desk of any library or from a card dispensing machine located in each library .    Credit may be added to a card at any Circulation Desk or card dispensing machine.

What do I need to use the printing stations?

To print materials at any Queen's Library location you will need a Library Copy Card. Cards can be purchased at any campus library.

What multimedia services and / or facilities does the Library offer?

Consult the appropriate Library maps (posted on a bulletin board within each Library) showing the general locations of the "live" data jacks.

Where can I find a scanner?
