UNDERGROUND NEWSPAPERS: GEORGIA STRAIGHT

Print this page

Description

The reels selected here are from a larger collection, Underground Newspapers, which consists of copies of alternative media serials from around the world (see notes below). The Queen's University Library set features early issues of Georgia Straight, published in Vancouver, B.C. and also known for some time as The Vancouver Free Press. Presently, Georgia Straight circulates as a weekly urban lifestyle magazine, and includes articles online at Straight.com.

"The Georgia Straight is also a member of the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies (AAN), a diverse group of 126 non-daily free-circulation papers that are distributed in all of the major metropolitan areas of North America." -- from the magazine's website

Some additional titles from the Underground Newspapers collection were also filmed on the same reels as Georgia Straight and are listed on the QCAT records for the reels. Reels containing more than one title have been filmed with the titles in alphabetical order, such that issues of Georgia Straight appear near the end of the reels.
