Canadian Education Index: Trial Access on WinSPIRS/WebSPIRS Network

Starting in April 1999, the former Canadian Education Index will be reissued on CD-ROM in a new format and under the new title: Canadian Business & Current Affairs (CBCA) Fulltext -- Education. This new CD has the potential of campus-wide, networked access through Queen's Libraries' WinSPIRS/WebSPIRS Database Network.

For the period March 8 to April 30, 1999, Queen's has been given a free license to mount a sample version of the database on the Libraries' Network, in order to elicit patron feedback about the potential usefulness of this new "Education module" within the CBCA Fulltext suite of databases. The sample database is limited to 8 months of indexing and fulltext material from 1998.

The complete version of CBCA Fulltext--Education, scheduled for release sometime in April, will include:

  • Indexing for approximately 150 Canadian education journals.
  • Selected coverage of education topics from 600 non-education related journals, including newspapers.
  • Fulltext for selected education journals and newsletters (from 1997 on).
  • Indexing for the ONTERIS database of Ontario research reports and curriculum documents.
  • Indexing and abstracts for Canadian education theses.
  • Indexing and abstracts for provincial curriculum guides.
  • The Canadian Education Directory (updated annually).

Comments about the usefulness of this database as a research resource will be particularly helpful as the Education Library considers whether to purchase the new product.
