Put Items on Course Reserve

tips icon Online Course Materials

Library advice on integrating online materials into course reading lists:

The course reserve service makes available a special collection of high demand items to support current courses. This service is provided for both print and online items, including online articles and e-books.

Instructors: put library items on course reserve

Original Publications (books, monographs etc.) may be placed on reserve. In the case of book chapters, the full book will be placed on Reserve in lieu of photocopied articles.

Photocopied Articles: One paper copy of an article may be put on course reserve for every 30 students in your course (up to a maximum of 3 copies per article).

To put a photocopy of an article on course reserve, it must be:

  • A supplementary (optional) source of information (not required for the completion of a course).
  • A small proportion (less than 25 percent) of the assigned reading for a course.
  • Not available freely on the web or in digital form through the library. The library can supply persistent links to these items for use in Learning Management Systems (Moodle) or on the web. Contact the Copyright Advisory Office (copy.right@queensu.ca) for help.

Photocopies cannot be returned to instructors at the end of the term/series of courses. Always keep a copy of your material for your own personal use.
