Queen’s Library has upgraded access to two key chemistry research databases: Beilstein Crossfire and Gmelin Crossfire.

Beilstein contains references to more than 8 million organic compounds and 9 million reactions linked to 37 million chemical property and bioactivitiy data records. It is the largest compilation of chemical facts in the world. Gmelin covers preparations, reactions and properties in organometallic and inorganic chemistry. It includes more than 2.1 million compounds and 1.6 million reactions.

Both databases are now available on the MDL DiscoveryGate web platform, which may be accessed from on and off campus. ( http://www.discoverygate.com) First-time users are required to run a brief installation program. Off-campus users must first login to the Queen’s web proxy service before using DiscoveryGate.
