Worth a look: NFB.ca Health and Medicine collection

NFB.ca – National Film Board’s Online Screening Room – Health and Medicine

Access to documentaries, animation and alternative dramas in streaming video, as well as NFB playlists, upcoming films and other related resources. This larger collection contains over 1,100 streamed videos from the NFB is freely available for personal use. In addition, Queen’s Library has purchased public performance rights for educational use and display at Queen’s.

The health sciences content spans a variety of subject areas including  bioethics, nursing, occupational health, cancer, genetics and more.

OvidMD is a new single search interface that will locate content in the following resources:

  • Evidence-Based and National Guidelines (U.S)
  • Facts & Comparisons A to Z Drug Facts
  • Images extracted from Ovid e-books and e-journals (based on captions)
  • RelayHealth Patient Handouts
  • UpToDate®

N.B. Included in OvidMD are brief, first page excerpts from UpToDate entries. Anyone with a personal subscription can login to their account to see the complete entry. Bracken Library does not subscribe to UpToDate.

Although some of the resources are most useful to medical students and clinicians, it should be noted that all health and life sciences students, staff and faculty will find useful content via this search interface. Bracken Library is trialing Anatomy and Physiology Online until February 29. Designed for students enrolled in introductory anatomy and physiology courses, this online educational resource contains 19 comprehensive modules on the human body. Features include:

CINAHL: Problem with Subject Headings *Updated*

The EBSCOhost database CINAHL [ Cumulated Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature] is currently experiencing problems with Subject Heading searching. The vendor is aware of the problem and is working to address the issue as soon as possible.

Update: This issue has been resolved.

RefWorks 2.0 Workshops

The abstract submission deadline is January 12 2012.
