PubMed Health specializes in reviews of clinical effectiveness research, with easy-to-read summaries for consumers as well as full technical reports. Clinical effectiveness research finds answers to the question “What works?” in medical and health care.

PubMed Health is based on systematic reviews of clinical trials. These clinical effectiveness reviews can show what treatments and prevention methods have been proven to work—and what remains unknown.

PubMed Health provides summaries and full texts of selected systematic reviews in one place. The reviews were generally published or updated from 2003. There is also information for consumers and clinicians based on those reviews.

PubMed Health is a service provided by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM).

NEW: Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Resources

Bracken has acquired two dozen healthcare e-source titles from Stat!Ref. The articles largely deal with patient safety and improving healthcare practices at both the institutional and individual levels. Foundations in Patient Safety for Health Professionals and The Illustrated Guide to Patient Handling and Movement are two examples.

Also in this collection are resources specifically related to Pharmacology, Infectious Diseases and Nursing. These include:

Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs Video Training Program;

Best Practices in Infection Prevention and Control: An International Perspective;

Nurse’s Role in Medication Safety (2^nd Ed.)

New resource: Anatomy and Physiology Online

Anatomy and Physiology Online is a comprehensive resource that provides a guided learning approach to anatomy and physiology in 19 modules with clear 3D images and interactive models, narrated animations and illustrations, and dissection slides you can label. It also includes clinical case studies, special consideration for the impact of aging on each body system, a pronunciation guide, quizzes and much more.

Problems searching PubMed Updated

Using PubMed off-campus through the proxy server is currently causing searches to fail (i.e. you click the Search button and nothing happens). The National Library of Medicine is aware of the problem and working on a fix. In the meantime, please use the standard PubMed address: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/
