RefWorks 2.0 Workshops

Bracken Library will be offering two “Introduction to RefWorks” workshops this semester:

  • Tuesday, January 31, 4:00pm – 5:15pm
  • Wednesday, February 29, 4:00pm – 5:15pm

Cochrane Canada Symposium 2012: Health Evidence for All

The 10th annual Cochrane Canada Symposium will be held in Winnipeg May 9-10.

The abstract submission deadline is January 12 2012.

Queen’s Medical Students visit the National Library of Medicine

Medical students from Queen’s Meds 2015, 2014 and 2013 visited the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland on Nov. 5th.  NLM is the largest medical library in the world–home of Medline, Pubmed and inventor of MESH headings.  This visit was part of the 13th annual HIstory of Medicine Field Trip–for the first time to Washington DC (see previous History of Medicine field trips).  In the photo, the 55 medical students and Dr. Jacalyn Duffin, Hannah Chair, History of Medicine, had just spent two hours visiting the Historical Collections with Stephen Greenberg.  Dr. Greenberg is Coordinator of Public Services, History of Medicine Division at the National Library of Medicine.

Open Access Week @ Bracken

Queen’s University is participating in International Open Access Week (Oct. 24-30). The aim of this event is to engage the research community in discussion about the issues and trends related to open access and promote awareness and understanding of open access – access to material publicly available online. More info

An open access exhibit will be displayed at Bracken on October 31 and November 1.

RefWorks 2.0 Workshops

Bracken librarian receives award for innovation.

Gillian Griffith, Clinical Outreach Librarian, is the 2011 recipient of the Canadian Health Libraries Association’s Flower Award for Innovation.  Gillian was honoured for her introduction of distance learning services for clinical staff in Bracken’s outreach partner institutions via WebEx web conferencing.

New! Canadian Health Research Collection (e-resource)

Canadian Health Research Collection

The Canadian Health Research Collection is a centralized e-repository of Canadian ‘grey literature’—in English and French—in the field of health and medical research. CHRC includes over 6000 monographs from Canadian universities, research institutes, and government agencies—many of which can be difficult to locate independently.

Search or browse CHRC or search a monograph title in QCAT.

ProQuest Dissertations and Theses – Full Text

ProQuest Dissertations and Theses now offers full text for most of the dissertations and theses added since 1997 and strong retrospective coverage for older works. Citations are provided since 1861 and abstracts since 1980.

Queen’s theses since 1997 are also available in full-text and can be searched as a subset of the Dissertations and Theses database.

Sage Research Methods Online

The Library now subscribes to the database Sage Research Methods Online.

From the publisher’s website:

SAGE Research Methods Online (SRMO) is a research tool supported by a newly devised taxonomy that links content and methods terms. It provides the most comprehensive picture available today of research methods (quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods)across the social and behavioural sciences. It includes more than 100,000 pages of SAGE book and reference material on research methods as well as editorially selected material from SAGE journals.
