InterLibrary Loans (ILL) Email Phishing Scam

Posted: May 16th, 2016

A number of phishing emails that are ostensibly from the Library have been received by Queen’s email account holders.

This email requests a response that users should recognize as a phishing attempt, and may be similar to this example that was reported recently:

“Dear User,

Your access to the Interlibrary Loans (ILL) is expiring soon, and you will be not eligible for Document Delivery Service. To continue to have access to the library services, you must reactivate your account. For this purpose, click the web address below or copy and paste it into your web browser. A successful login will activate your account and you will be redirected to the ILL homepage.

If you are unable to log in, please contact the IT Support Centre for immediate assistance.

Kind Regards,

Interlibrary Loans & Document Delivery Services

If you receive a message of this type, do not follow the link and please delete the email.

Falling Canadian dollar raises longstanding issue of journal costs

Posted: February 9th, 2016

Research libraries in universities across the country are experiencing severe budget pressures owing to the weakening Canadian dollar combined with the extraordinarily high costs of international scholarly journals. In response to this, the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) has released a communique, Falling Canadian dollar raises longstanding issue of journal costs. This communication complements information about our cost reduction strategy at Queen’s University Library.

Enhanced Interlibrary Loan Service

Posted: July 31st, 2014

Starting this summer, Stauffer Library is filling interlibrary loan (ILL) requests for Humanities, Social Sciences, Engineering and Sciences and Law, using Relais, an ILL system that is also now in use at many other OCUL institutions. Relais improves upon our existing Ariel ILL system by allowing us to quickly receive requested documents and deliver them electronically directly to your RACER email address, via a secure website. If you have any questions about this new service, please contact the Interlibrary Loans office at 613-533-2526 or email racersl@queensu.ca

Closure of Interlibrary Loan Service at Library and Archives Canada

Posted: November 8th, 2012

Library and Archives Canada (LAC) will cease its interlibrary loan (ILL) service as of December 2012. Queen’s will no longer be able to borrow material held at LAC which includes newspapers and archival material on microfilm and Canadian university theses.

Users of LAC’s current services should note the following dates:

November 16, 2012: End of renewals. All items loaned after this date will be non-renewable and need to be returned to Interlibrary Loans.

December 11, 2012: End of loan requests, location searches, and ILL-related photocopying services.

RACER Search Screen Improvement on Monday, 8 Dec 2008

Posted: December 5th, 2008

The RACER Interlibrary Loan system will be changed slightly on December 8, 2008 so that, on login, you will be able to start from a screen which offers clearer options for searching by a known author or title — a logical approach to making an interlibrary loan request.

Reminder:  On RACER, it is not mandatory that you use the search screen in order to place a request!  Instead:

  • If you already have the citation information in hand for the article or chapter or book which you need to order, just click on the “Blank Request Form” link on the left navigation column of the RACER screen, once you have logged in, as follows:

RACER Interlibrary Loan Request System Unavailable this Weekend

Posted: August 18th, 2008

Access to RACER will not be available from 5 pm on Friday, 22 August 2008 to 9 am on Monday, 25 August 2008, to enable a major system software upgrade. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Date changed: RACER Unavailable Thurs Eve April 17-Early Fri April 18, 2008

Posted: April 7th, 2008

The maintenance window for the RACER Interlibrary Loan System, formerly scheduled for Saturday April 12th, has been postponed to Thursday April 17, 2008 beginning at 5 PM and ending at 2 AM on Friday, April 18.

During that time, RACER will be unavailable for use in order for the database to be migrated to a new server. These changes are not directly related to the RACER software itself, and as such there will be no changes to the look or functionality of RACER once the server migration has been completed.

We regret this interruption in our interlibrary loan service and thank RACER users for their patience during this necessary system upgrade.
