The Library has purchased a number of new microfilm readers that are now available for use on the Lower Level of Stauffer Library.
The new readers are fast, easy to use and work with all of our film types (35mm, 16mm and fiche). They feature large screen displays, intuitive controls and the ability to capture high resolution images of film, process them with optical character recognition (OCR) software and save them to word searchable PDFs.
If you do any research using microfilm, we think you’ll be pleased with our new microfilm readers. To learn more about our microfilm services, come see us at Stauffer Library or visit our Microform Printing and Scanning Facilities page.

RefWorks 2.0—RefWorks’ new interface—is now the default for Queen’s users! The new, easy-to-navigate interface will make managing and sharing your research even easier. Your favourite features, including Write-N-Cite, are still available. In fact, additions such as the “My List” folder option and the ability to create subfolders enhance already-popular features like RefShare and Create Bibliography.
The traditional interface—RefWorks Classic—will be available until the end of December, 2011. Until then, you may return to Classic by clicking the “Login using RefWorks Classic” link on the RefWorks login center page. Alternately, once you have logged in to RefWorks 2.0, you can click on the “RefWorks Classic” link at the top right of the page to set your default to RefWorks Classic. You will be able to switch between Classic and 2.0 until RefWorks Classic is completely phased out.
For more detailed information, please see the RefWorks 2.0BETA Quick Start Guide, the RefWorks 2.0 demo, or the RefWorks 2.0 FAQs. For more information about RefWorks in general, or to sign up for an account, please go to http://library.queensu.ca/help/refworks.
Please do not hesitate to contact Jennifer Szwec, Academic Public Services Intern at Bracken Health Sciences Library, with any questions you may have about RefWorks Classic or 2.0: bracken.library@queensu.ca.

RefWorks has implemented a feature which allows you to attach journal article PDFs to citations in your personal RefWorks database. This will allow you to keep a copy of the full-text article with your citation. Select a reference in your database. Next to Attachments, click on Browse. Select a file to attach. Select Open. Click on Add attachment.

Refworks Write-N-Cite is a downloadable utility that allows you to easily access the citations you have stored in your Refworks account, and use them as references in your paper, written in Microsoft Word.
With the radically new version of Microsoft Office 2007 including Word 2007 comes the introduction of the .docx file, which unfortunately cannot be handled by the current version of Refworks Write-N-Cite. Just remember to save your MS Word files in the “Word 97-2003 (*.doc)” format instead of the “Word 2007 (*.docx)” format to avoid any problems.
Also, there may be issues with using Refworks Write-N-Cite in a Windows Vista environment. You can search Google to find several workarounds, including this page from the University of Warwick that provides step-by-step instructions.
