German Literature Collections

A new full-text database, German Literature Collections provides cross-searchable access to:

  • scholarly editions of the complete works of Goethe, Schiller, Kafka and Brecht
  • a collection of 5 centuries of German poetry (Die Deutsche Lyrik)
  • a comprehensive library of German literature, philosophy, politics and history from the 8th-20th centuries (Digitale Bibliothek Deutscher Klassiker)

Each collection also is searchable as a separate database, under the “German Literature Collections” umbrella.  More information.

Teatro Espanol del Siglo de Oro

A full-text database comprising the most important dramatic works of 16th and 17th century Spain, the Teatro Español del Siglo de Oro provides access to digital versions of more than 800 plays written by Lope de Vega, Calderón de la Barca, Agustín Moreto, and 13 other dramatists.   The default search interface is in Spanish, with an alternate English interface

Web of Science – Archival Coverage back to 1900

The Library’s subscription to Web of Science has been expanded to include access to the complete online backfile. As a result, coverage dates for the three components of the database are now:

  • Science Citation Index Expanded – from 1900 to present
  • Social Sciences Citation Index – from 1956 to present
  • Arts & Humanities Citation Index – from 1975 to present (no change)

All sections are updated weekly. For more information about this new backfile purchase, consult the vendor’s product description.

NOTE: If you regularly connect to Web of Science, you may need to clear the cache/history in your web browser in order to view the extended coverage.

Term Loans Due May 15

Books signed out on term loan are due Tuesday, May 15th and can be returned to any library on campus. Books may be renewed online or at a circulation desk,  provided they are not required by other users, and will then be due on September 15, 2007.

Searching Patents for Scientists and Engineers, Workshops April 24 & 26

Patents are an vital source of information on new innovations and emerging technologies. Last year inventors worldwide filed more than 1.5 million patent applications. Patent literature is international and interdisciplinary, covering inventions in every field of technology during the last 200 years. Searching patents as well as collecting data for a new patent may be an important part of your research. This workshop will teach you how to locate, retrieve and evaluate patent documents. Topics include:

  • Overview of patent documents and databases
  • Patent number searching
  • Inventor and company searching
  • Searching by subject classification
  • Translations and cited references
  • Workshops will be held April 24th & 26th, 5:30-7:00pm in the Douglas Library E-Classroom.

    With the purchase of the newly released BIOSIS Archives, the Library’s subscription to BIOSIS Previews has expanded to include the entire contents of the 49 print volumes of Biological Abstracts originally published from 1926 to 1968. More information.

    House of Commons Parliamentary Papers (UK) – 19th, 20th and 21st Century

    House of Commons Parliamentary Papers (UK)

    Queen’s Library’s subscription to the 19th Century House of Commons Parliamentary Papers full-text database has been significantly expanded to include papers from 1901 through to the current session (and onwards).  The only coverage gap is for the period 1979-2004: papers from these years are  scheduled to be added to the database by Spring 2007.

    The Library’s acquisition of this additional coverage has been made possible by Queen’s participation in the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) partnership of Canadian universities.

    Stauffer Library building open 24/7 during April exams

    Stauffer Library will be open 24 hours/day April 2-27 (including the long holiday weekend, April 6-8) to provide study space during the April exam period.

    Regular hours of service apply to circulation and reserve services.

    Between the hours of 11pm and 8am, access to the building is limited to current Queen’s University students, staff, faculty and community cardholders. Patrons should be prepared to show identification to Security.

    Students leaving Stauffer Library after midnight are encouraged to call the AMS Walkhome service. Contact information is available from Walkhome signs in the Library or from Security personnel at the main entrance.
