ScienceDirect E-Journals & E-Books Unavailable Sat Night (Nov 1, 2008)

All e-journals and e-books published by Elsevier and made available on the ScienceDirect platform will be unavailable from 9 pm on Saturday, 1 November 2008 until 8 am on Sunday, 2 November 2008.  The outage is required “to support scheduled maintenance” on the publisher’s web server.

Bracken Library Workshops for Graduate Students

Researching Patents for Scientists and Engineers – Workshop

Patents are an important source of scientific, medical and technical information, much of which is not published in journals. This workshop will show you how you can access the wealth of information in patent literature and provide you with strategies for searching patent databases. You will learn the basic principals of the patent system and why it is important to monitor the patent literature. You will also learn the format of a patent document and how it compares to a journal article, how to download patent documents and cite patent literature.

Bracken Library Closed Oct. 18 & 19, 2008

October 14, 2008 marks the first Open Access Day – an initiative of three important organizations central to advocating for more openness in scholarship and research: SPARC, the Public Library of Science, and Students for FreeCulture.

ASTM standards, full-text, online – new subscription

New subscription!

Queen’s faculty, staff and students now have online access to the full-text of active ASTM Standards published by ASTM International.

This collection of technical standards for materials, products, systems, and services can be searched by designation or keyword.  Alternatively, one also can browse by area of interest or view the alphanumeric listing of standards.
