All e-journals and e-books published by Elsevier and made available on the ScienceDirect platform will be unavailable from 9 pm on Saturday, 1 November 2008 until 8 am on Sunday, 2 November 2008. The outage is required “to support scheduled maintenance” on the publisher’s web server.
The Bracken Library is holding three workshops for graduate students in the health sciences in November and December. Topics include how to keep current, using Reference Manager and RefWorks, and scholarly communications. Researching Patents for Scientists and Engineers – Workshop

Patents are an important source of scientific, medical and technical information, much of which is not published in journals. This workshop will show you how you can access the wealth of information in patent literature and provide you with strategies for searching patent databases. You will learn the basic principals of the patent system and why it is important to monitor the patent literature. You will also learn the format of a patent document and how it compares to a journal article, how to download patent documents and cite patent literature.
