Patent Searching for Researchers and Entrepreneurs: a Free Workshop

Patents are a significant and increasingly important source of scientific and technical information, much of which is not published in journals. Patent information is also crucial to making informed decisions about new research projects and business opportunities.

This workshop will teach you how to search and retrieve international patent information in public patent databases. You will learn how to find patents by inventor name, company and technology. Demonstrated search strategies will cover clean energy, biotechnology and green chemistry. Legal status and ownership information will also be discussed.

CISTI Source service ends March 31st

NRC-CISTI has announced that the CISTI Source service will cease in August, 2009. Queen’s University Library’s subscription will not be renewed when it ends March 31, 2009. http://source.cisti-icist.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/index_e.html

We will be in touch with all Queen’s University CISTI Source account holders with recommendations for alternate alert and toc services.

Attach Articles in RefWorks

RefWorks has implemented a feature which allows you to attach journal article PDFs to citations in your personal RefWorks database.  This will allow you to keep a copy of the full-text article with your citation.  Select a reference in your database.  Next to Attachments, click on Browse.  Select a file to attach. Select Open. Click on Add attachment.

A Tribute to Dr J. Allen Keast, Professor Emeritus of the Queen’s Biology Department

Dr. J. Allen Keast, Professor Emeritus of the Queen’s Biology Department, passed away on March 8, 2009.  In remembrance, a display of his books is now available for viewing in the Engineering and Science Library.  This display is located on the first floor of the Douglas building, one floor above the ground entrance, near the stairs.

Sixteen new and updated titles from Knovel

Knovel announces sixteen new and updated titles spanning six subject areas including Food Science, Plastics and Rubber, and Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.

New interactive content has been added to Recycling of Plastic Materials, RF Radiation Safety Handbook, Handbook of Chemical Processing Equipment. Many of the titles have interactive tables and graphs.
