Book Scanner Trial at Stauffer Library

Posted: March 22nd, 2012

An overhead book scanner has been installed in Stauffer Library for a two week trial.  It has been placed on the table nearest to the printers on the main floor of Stauffer.

The scanner allows users to quickly scan pages from a book and save them to a USB key in PDF format.  For more information about how the scanner works, see the product website: http://book2net-spirit.com/.

This trial will allow the Library to evaluate the usefulness of the machine for our users and help us decide whether to purchase a book scanner for students & faculty.  So, if you have scanning needs, come to Stauffer, try the book scanner and give us your feedback about the machine.

Do not leave belongings unattended!

Posted: March 15th, 2012

Campus Security has noted a recent trend in personal property thefts on campus resulting from items left unattended or in unsecured areas.

Laptop computers, cell phones, and other valuables have recently been stolen from cafeterias, libraries, and from unlocked change room lockers, sometimes after only being left unattended for a brief period.

Individuals are also advised to record the serial numbers on all property to assist in their recovery if stolen.

It will help you locate encyclopedia articles, and dictionary entries on a wide variety of topics.

Some of the articles will be accessible online, while others will be found in print sources shelved in Queen’s Library.

Click on the title of the reference source to find the call number of the print reference sources or to link to the full text of online reference sources.

The Library welcomes your feedback on this resource.

Problems searching PubMed *Updated*

Posted: March 9th, 2012

Using PubMed off-campus through the proxy server is currently causing searches to fail (i.e. you click the Search button and nothing happens).  The National Library of Medicine is aware of the problem and working on a fix.  In the meantime, please use the standard PubMed address: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/

Update: The National Library of Medicine reports that this issue has been resolved.  If you are still experiencing problems, please email bracken.library@queensu.ca or call 613-533-3176
