Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.

 

Author Guidelines

All manuscripts must be submitted preferably as an html or Microsoft WORD document.

Manuscripts may be in either English or French.

1. Content:


COLAJ includes articles, book reviews, video/DVD reviews, conference reports in all fields of interest and concern to librarians and archivists.

Manuscripts may take any form appropriate to the topic, for instance, case studies, descriptive or historical narratives, commentaries, or reports on research projects, etc.

2. Author’s Responsibilities:


Manuscripts submitted for review must be previously unpublished, in whole or in part. The only exception to this rule are working papers produced for workshops or conferences or included as part of a working paper series, and are not currently being considered for publication elsewhere.

Authors are responsible for the accuracy of statements in their unpublished material. In addition, the author is responsible for obtaining written permission from any person cited as the source of an unpublished work, and for obtaining written permission to use copyrighted material.

By submitting a manuscript to COLAJ : CANADIAN ONLINE LIBRARY AND ARCHIVE JOURNAL, an author is verifying that he/she has secured all necessary approvals and permissions. The editor may request proof of these permissions.

3. Editorial Policies:


Manuscripts are evaluated for their appropriateness for COLAJ, significance and clarity. If accepted, manuscripts will be edited for clarity. Manuscripts requiring extensive reworking will be returned to the author. The editor welcomes advance queries from authors about possible COLAJ articles.

4. Style Considerations:


For general questions of style, follow The Chicago Manual of Style (15th ed. 2003). For spelling use The Oxford English Dictionary.

Instructions for Manuscript Preparation:


1. Title and Author Page:


Titles should reflect the article’s content. Below the title, provide the name(s), professional title(s), and affiliation(s) of the author(s), and the e-mail address of the author to whom correspondence should be sent.

2. Abstract:


An abstract of 50 words or less should be included.

3. Text:


Manuscripts must be double spaced with 1 inch margins on all sides. Use italics rather than underlining where applicable. Quotations of less than thirty words should be enclosed in double quotation marks. Quotations of thirty or more words should be blocked off and indented an additional inch on the left and right margins. Footnotes should be identified in the text by superscript numbers.

4. Footnotes:


Footnotes should follow the form of The Chicago Manual of Style.

5. Appendices, Bibliographies, Tables, and Illustrations:


Tables and figures should be numbered separately and placed together at the end of the document. Insert a location note at the appropriate place in the text (e.g., “Insert Table 1 here”). Key and tab tables as simply as possible. Figures must be sharp and clear, and must fit within the text area of a journal page (115mm x 175mm).

Supplementary materials, such as appendices and bibliographies, should be provided on separate pages.

All illustrations must be submitted in .GIFF format.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
