CRL holds over 4,500 U.S. newspapers, many dating to the colonial era, including a strong collection of U.S. ethnic newspapers, published from the mid-1800s to the present. CRL has a subscription to at least one newspaper from every state and to newspapers from an additional 25 cities with the greatest population nationally.
Major collections within the U.S. newspaper collection include:
- African American newspapers
- Civilian Conservation Corps Newspapers
- U.S. ethnic newspapers

To search for newspapers, go to Catalog Search Options, or alternatively, go to the Catalogue. Select the Newspapers tab.
One can browse by country; the search results will display the country entry subdivided by smaller geographic units, e.g. by city.
