Printing from Your Laptop (Mac)

Mac printing requirements -- Read these first...
- You must have a Queen's NetID.
- Your laptop must be using Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) or Mac OS X 10.5.x (Leopard) or Mac OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard). Queen's Library cannot support older versions of Mac OS. For Windows users, go to Printing from Your Laptop (Windows).
- You must be able to connect to the Queen's campus network using a wired or wireless connection.
What do you have to do, to be able to print to the Library printers?
- Connect your laptop to the Queen's campus network. If you are connecting to the Queen's network for the first time, use one of the following methods:
- Wireless - Read instructions
- Wired - Read instructions
- Locate the name of your laptop:
- Click on the Apple icon located at the top left of the screen.
- Click on About This Mac.
- Click on More Info....
- Title information at the top of System Profiler dialog box contains the name of the laptop.
- Close dialog box and exit System Profiler.
- Locate the necessary printer information in the Library Print Queues table (below) before starting the printer installation process.
- Select the printer installation instructions that apply to your Mac operating system and library printer:
- Laptops running Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) or Mac OS X 10.5.x (Leopard)
- All Library printers EXCEPT Douglas, Education and Stauffer Library Colour printers - Read instructions
- Douglas, Education and Stauffer Library Colour Printers ONLY - Read instructions
- Laptops running Mac OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard) or Mac OS X 10.5.x (Lion)
- All Library printers EXCEPT Douglas, Education and Stauffer Library Colour printers - Read instructions

Douglas, Education and Stauffer Library Colour Printers ((Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) or Mac OS X 10.5.x (Leopard)) - Read instructions
- Click on the Apple icon located in the top left corner of the screen and click on System Preferences.
- Click on Print & Fax and then click on the + in the dialog box to add a printer.
- Click on IP Printer icon located at the top of the next dialog box.
- Under Protocol, keep the option Line Printer Daemon.
- In the Address input box, type the IP address: 130.15.161.252.
- In the Queue input box, type the queue name from Library Print Queues table.
- In the Name input box, delete the IP address and type the queue name from Library Print Queues table.
- In the Location input box, type the name of the library (e.g. Stauffer Library).
- In the Print Using drop-down menu, select the appropriate library printer brand: HP.
- In the Model drop-down menu, select the appropriate model number from Library Print Queues table.
- Click on Add.
Using the appropriate printer information from the Library Print Queues table, complete the following:
You will then be presented with the Installable Options dialog box...

To enable double-sided printing, click on the checkbox labeled Duplex Unit.

Click on Continue to complete installation.

All Library printers EXCEPT Douglas, Education and Stauffer Library Colour printers (Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) or Mac OS X 10.5.x (Leopard)) - Read instructions
Printer drivers for this printer are not included in MAC OS X. Printer drivers must be downloaded from the HP website and installed on the laptop as follows:
- Go to: www.hp.com
- Click on Support & Drivers.
- Select Download drivers and software (and firmware).
- Enter product name: Use printer model name from Library Print Queues table
- Under Select operating system, click on: Mac OS X
- Scroll down to Software section and click on Download.
- Save the disk image file to the Desktop.
- After the downloading is completed, close all programs and double-click on the downloaded disk image file. A disk image icon and HP LaserJet installer window will appear. (If the HP LaserJet installer window does not appear, double-click on the disk image icon.)
- Double-click on the HP LaserJet printer icon in the HP LaserJet installer window. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the printer drivers.
Now that you've got the printer drivers, install the printer as follows:
- Click on the Apple icon located in the top left corner of the screen and click on System Preferences.
- Click on Print & Fax and then click on the + in the dialog box to add a printer.
- Click on IP Printer icon located at the top of the next dialog box.
- Under Protocol, keep the option Line Printer Daemon.
- In the Address input box, type the IP address: 130.15.161.252.
- In the Queue input box, type the queue name from Library Print Queues table
- In the Name input box, delete the IP address and type in the print queue name.
- In the Location input box, type the name of the library.
- In the Print Using drop-down menu, choose the appropriate library printer brand: HP.
- In the Model drop-down menu, select the appropriate printer model number from Library Print Queues table.
- Click on Add.
Using the appropriate printer information from the Library Print Queues table, complete the following:
You will then be presented with the Installable Options dialog box... Select the installable options that are appropriate for the printer from the following table:

When retrieving print jobs at the public printer station:

Print jobs sent from Mac laptops will appear on the Printer Station print job queue under the Mac laptop's name.

- Click on the Apple icon located in the top left corner of the screen and click on Software Updates to search for updates.
- If software updates are found, install them.
- Click on the Apple icon located in the top left corner of the screen and click on System Preferences.
- Click on Print & Fax and then click on the + in the dialog box to add a printer.
- Click on the IP icon located at the top of the next dialog box.
- Under Protocol, keep the option Line Printer Daemon
- In the Address input box, type the IP address: 130.15.161.252
- In the Queue input box, type the queue name from Library Print Queues table.
- In the Name input box, delete the IP address and type in the queue name from Library Print Queues table.
- In the Location input box, type the name of the library.
- In the Print Using drop-down menu, select Select a driver to use… (or Select printer software...)
- In the next drop-down menu, select the appropriate printer model by either typing the model name and number in the search box or by scrolling through the list of printers.
- Click on Add
Using the appropriate printer information from the Library Print Queues table, complete the following:
You will then be presented with the Installable Options dialog box... Select the installable options that are appropriate for the printer from the following table:
