At Queen's, it was the practice in the past to accept authority records and forms of headings from both the Library of Congress and the National Library of Canada. If the heading was for a Canadian person, place, or corporate body, and the name was found in both sources, the Canadian form of the name was chosen by preference.
The current Library of Congress policy is to consult with the National Library of Canada, and use the form of the name established by NLC. However, older headings, established prior to this policy, may differ. If the forms of names differ, you may add a note indicating the NLC form of the name to the local record.
Since we migrated to Voyager this policy has changed. Although we loaded both the LC and the NLC authority records we already had, we now use the LC form of the name by preference. Only the LC authority file is updated. Please note, however, we are currently not up-to-date with the LC name authorities.
You may add information found in NLC to the LC authority record. However, if you do so, remember to add a subfield |5 CaOKQ to the additional references or notes, so that they will be retained if LC updates their record.
