You can now search LC's authority files on the web. Connect to http://authorities.loc.gov/, and click on Search Authorities. You can then search by the following categories:
Since LC is also on Voyager, the indexes and search displays will be somewhat familiar.
Once you find a record you can save it in MARC format, and then import it into our own catalogue; however, you can only save a single record to a file. If you need to save and import a number of records, you will need to do each one individually.

Once you have the record displayed on your screen, go to the bottom of the screen. There you will see the following options:

Make sure MARC Format ONLY Save) is selected, and then click on the Print or Save Search Results button. The window will then display something similar to the following.

The entire record shows on one single long line of text. The record looks like this because it is already converted into MARC format. You then need to save the record using your browser commands. In Internet Explorer, select Save As from the File menu.

The browser will then bring up a Save dialog box. Give the file a name, and select the directory you wish to use (probably your Upload directory.

Make sure that record type is set to Text file.
(If you are using Netscape, add .txt to the end of the file name, to make the record type Text.)
You may then hit the Back button to do any additional searching.
You would load the record you saved into the Queen's database by importing it in the usual manner. For more information see Loading Records from a File.
