Introduction

You can now search LC's authority files on the web. Connect to http://authorities.loc.gov/, and click on Search Authorities. You can then search by the following categories:

Since LC is also on Voyager, the indexes and search displays will be somewhat familiar.

Once you find a record you can save it in MARC format, and then import it into our own catalogue; however, you can only save a single record to a file. If you need to save and import a number of records, you will need to do each one individually.

Save Command

The browser will then bring up a Save dialog box. Give the file a name, and select the directory you wish to use (probably your Upload directory.

Save Command

Make sure that record type is set to Text file.

(If you are using Netscape, add .txt to the end of the file name, to make the record type Text.)

You may then hit the Back button to do any additional searching.

You would load the record you saved into the Queen's database by importing it in the usual manner. For more information see Loading Records from a File.
