The year of publication is rendered differently in a CODOC call number, depending on the era of the publication. Practice depends on which of three date ranges is involved:
Material published in the 20th century uses the last two digits of the full date of publication.
Example:
69
Material published from 2000 on uses all four digits of the date.
Example:
2002
For material published prior to 1900 a letter is used to indicate the first 3 digits of the publication date, and the fourth digit of the date is the second character of the year code.
