How To Access Course Reading and Find Articles

The following instructions will help you in locating resources that are in the Queen's Library electronic journal collection.

Since some articles are only available from Queen’s Library subscription databases, you must follow certain procedures in order to access these articles or to search the Library’s electronic subscription databases.

Library Icons

Look for the following library graphic icons which may be in your course — click on any of these, whenever you see them in your course, to view these instructions to assist you in accessing the various electronic library resources you may be directed to use.

This icon means that an electronic copy of a journal article is available via a direct link to a database in the Queen's library collection. To access this article, you will have to enter a username and password.

  1. To access the article, please click on the link or url provided in your course. This will take you to the login page where you can sign-in with your Queen's NetID (aka D2L login) and password.
  2. Enter your username and password and then click on the Connect From Off-Campus button (See the image below). You will then be directed to an electronic copy of the journal article.

  3. Connect From Off Campus

During your course, you may be instructed to search for articles in an online database from the Queen's Library Online Article Indexes & Databases collection.

You will now have two possible options depending on the instructions provided in your course.

  1. If a specific journal or database URL was provided, click on the link in the course. You will then be prompted to enter your Queen's NetID and password. Search within that journal or database to find resources relevant to your topic.
  2. If a general journal search is required, please click on Connect From Off-Campus (also located on the left-hand toolbar of your course). Enter your username and password and then click on the Connect From Off-Campus button.

After you have signed in, click on "library home" to go the library homepage.

How to find Education Databases

At this point, you should now be on the library homepage.

  1. On the Library Online Resources webpage, scroll down to Research by Subject.
  2. Use the subject selector under 'Research by Subject', select Education and then select Recommended Education Databases

    Find Articles
  3. You will be presented with a list of all the databases in the field.
  4. Select any database to begin your search.

You can also click on any of the links in the Recommended Education Databases to Begin Your Search section for direct access to the largest education databases in the Queen's electronic catalogue.
