Interlibrary Loan
Can’t find a specific item at Queen’s? If the Library doesn’t have it, we can help you get it from another library through interlibrary loan (ILL). Book loans are generally free of charge (some exceptions apply). Fees apply to photocopied items (e.g., journal articles or book chapters) and the copies are yours to keep.
ILL wait and delivery times vary widely depending on the proximity of the lending library and the availability of the item at their end. Photocopied items often arrive within a week (not guaranteed); delivery times on borrowed items range anywhere from a few days to well over a month. As part of the request process, you can specify a deadline (“not needed after”) date – we will try to get the item to you before then.
Interlibrary loan is a great service for obtaining specific items you need for a specific assignment or project, but works best when you can plan ahead and allow some delivery time before your assignment is due.
