Document Delivery Policies
If the items ARE available at a Queen's Library:
If you would like Stauffer Library books delivered to the Education Library for you or if you would like us to photocopy an article or chapter that IS available at a Queen's Library for you, please use our Book Retrieval Service or our Photocopy Service Request Form.
If you are a Continuing Education candidate please note that we do not send books in the mail but we will send photocopies of journal articles or book chapters to you if requested. Use the Photocopy Service Request Form and fill in your mailing address in the Where did you find your reference box for us. We will send the $3.00 per article invoice with the document. If the items ARE NOT available at a Queen's Library:
The "RACER" Interlibrary Loan Service is offered to provide Queen's students, staff and faculty with resources that are not available at a Queen's Library. A current Queen's student, staff or faculty card is required to initiate a Document Delivery/ILL request. The Ontario Public Library system offers Interlibrary Loan Services for community members. Please ask at a Queen's Library Information Desk if you would like further information about how to contact your local public library.
Copyright restrictions do apply to all materials requested.
To submit a request to RACER, go to RACER and Log In.
Document Delivery Fees
For books:
Book loans are usually for 3 weeks, depending on the lending library's policies. There is no charge for this service, but an overdue fine of $1.00 per day will apply to all overdue items.
When your requested book arrives you will receive an email letting you know that it is ready to be picked up at the Education Library's Circulation Desk. ILL books may be returned to the library at any time. When the library is closed there is a drop box available in the outside wall of Duncan McArthur Hall, just to the right of the library windows as you face the building (please note, this box is not visible from the entrance -- you have to walk towards the library windows to see it).
For articles:
There is a charge of $3.00 per article or book chapter. These charges may be put on a Queen's account code at the time of your request and you may request that any documents placed on a Queen's account code be delivered to your on-campus address. If you do want to charge to a code it is essential that you provide the code to us at the time of your request by typing the code into the Special Instructions box, including the name of the account holder. ILL account code requests are charged on a monthly basis.
If you are paying by cash you will be notified by email when your document has arrived and you may pick it up at the Education Library's Circulation Desk. If your document is not picked up after 30 days the document will be discarded and the $3.00 charge will be placed on your library account.
