Faculty Borrowing
Library Cards
A valid Queen's University faculty card serves as your library card. Once you receive your card please come to the library to have it activated.
Borrowing / Returning / Renewing
- Faculty and graduate students may borrow up to 100 items at a time for an extended loan so long as no other users require the item. Books are due 3 times a year – mid January, mid-May and mid-September.
- Books must be returned promptly if recalled by another user. Journals do not circulate. Queen's library books may be returned to any library on campus. Return slots are located outside libraries for after hour use.
- Books can be renewed unless requested by another borrower. Renewals can be done electronically or by bringing the items to the circulation desk. To renew books electronically go to QCAT, the library catalogue, click on View Your Library Account and follow the instructions.
Recalls / Holds
Recalls and holds can be placed on books that are signed out. Recalls can be requested for books that are out for term loan, and holds can be placed on books signed out for 2 weeks.
All term loans are subject to recall after 2 weeks. If a book you have signed out is recalled you will be notified via your official Queen's e-mail and you must return the book within 5 days. If you are going away, please make arrangements for someone to be able to return the books.
To recall or place a hold on a book go to QCAT, the library catalogue, and retrieve the record of the book you need. Click on Place Request and choose either recall or hold.
Proxy Patron
- Queen's faculty may designate other current Queen's faculty, staff or students to borrow material on their behalf.
- All items signed out for the faculty member by the proxy patron will be listed on the faculty member's record and may not exceed the total limit (100 items).
- The faculty member is responsible for the materials charged, for renewing the books, and for ensuring the return by the recall due date of any item recalled.
- Both the faculty member and the designated proxy must complete and sign the Proxy Patron Application Form available at all library circulation desks.
Campus Book Retrieval Services
Faculty, students and staff can request that material on the shelf in one campus library be sent to another campus library for pickup by the requestor.
Borrowing from Other Libraries
