Queen's University Disability Services Mission Statement
The mission of the Disability Services Group, in partnership with faculty, staff and students, is to promote educational equity for students with disabilities, and to assist those students in pursuing a university education.
The Disability Services Group is comprised of service providers uniquely qualified to recommend and provide appropriate services to students with specific disabilities.
We assist students by:
- facilitating access to information, services, space and activities
- promoting autonomy
- providing advocacy and support
- recommending accommodations
- educating the Queen's community about the ways in which the above objectives may be supported and empowered
Who are the members of the Disability Services Group?
Disability Services Office Staff
The Disability Services Office is located at 146 Stuart Street, on the first floor of the La Salle Building. The main office number is 613-533-6467. Services provided include: accommodation planning, the note-taker programme, faculty liaison, making exam arrangements, referral to other services on campus such as Health, Counselling and Disability Services, Career Services, and Library Services for Students with Disabilities at Queen's University Library.
Resource personnel located at the Disability Services Office include the Disability Services Advisor, the Receptionist and Program Support, and the Administrative Assistant and Notetaker Program Coordinator.

The Disability Services Advisor conducts initial interviews to help each student determine which accommodations are required. After the interviews, individualized accommodations are arranged, the appropriate information is sent to faculty and staff and, if required, referrals to other services are provided.
In addition to assisting students with accommodations, the Disability Services Advisor liaises with the Queen's Community regarding accessibility policies and issues and promotes disability awareness. - Learning Disabilities Strategist

Gail provides strategy instruction for students who have learning disabilities and attention deficit disorders. She works one-on-one with students strengthening and developing a range of skills including effective studying, time management, exam preparation, and essay writing. Wendy is the Notetaker Program Coordinator for the office and is responsible for the Notetaker Program. This is a program that endeavours to "match" a volunteer notetaker to a student who would otherwise be unable to take notes for themselves based on their disability. (Please see Notetaker Program under "Accommodations" > "Academic Accommodations" for more information.)
Wendy's administrative role encompasses residence admission and parking issues, follow-up on exam arrangements, database management, bursaries, collaboration with other service departments for snow/ice clearance and liaising with faculty and staff. As well, Wendy reviews and renews accommodations for returning students.

Stacy is responsible for reception services, student registration, scheduling of appointments and other program support. As the primary contact person for Disability Services, Stacy ensures that students, faculty, and other members of the University community connect with appropriate personnel and find the resources that they need.

Andrew provides one-on-one consultation, and instruction in the areas of text-to-speech (scan and read), word completion, word finding, spelling, speech recognition (speech-to-text), thought organization, and other assistive/adaptive technologies known to benefit students who have learning disabilities. His office is located in the Adaptive Technology Centre in Stauffer Library.

Dr. Harrison is clinical director of the Regional Assessment and Resource Centre (RARC) at Queen's. The centre's mission is to provide psycho-educational assessment services to the post-secondary student population of eastern Ontario as well as to secondary school students in the Kingston community. RARC also provides psychoeducational assessment services to adults in the community who are returning to a learning environment.

Michele, a librarian, coordinates Library Services for Students with Disabilities and will assist students with disabilities in using the adaptive technology available in the Adaptive Technology Centre in Stauffer Library. Other services include specialized research, reduced-cost photocopying, extended book loan periods and stack retrieval. Tape recorders are available on loan from Michele office.
