BioCyc Database Collection Gets Go Ahead

Following a successful 30-day trial of the BioCyc Pathway/Genome Database Collection during June and July 2022, Queen’s University Library (QUL) has acquired an annual subscription for this comprehensive and dynamic resource. The BioCyc Database Collection is an encyclopedic set of more than 20,005 Pathway/Genome Databases (PGDBs) describing many sequenced genomes. The full database collection is currently available for students, faculty, researchers, and staff with a Queen’s Net ID, as well as community members who are onsite at QUL locations. During the 30-day trial, Queen’s users accessed 1421 pages of content from the BioCyc database collection. 

This incredible collection features curated data from 130,000 publications, enabling researchers around the world to share fundamental information about biochemical pathways and genomes. PGDBs describe the entire genome of an organism, as well as its biochemical pathways and (when curated) its regulatory network. The comprehensive nature of this resource collection means more effective collaboration and impactful consistency between researchers and institutions. The BioCyc Pathway/Genome Database Collection is now accessible through the database listings on the QUL website

BioCyc curators summarize and synthesize information from thousands of publications, facilitating the literature search process and data integration for large-scale computational analyses. BioCyc supports activities in drug discovery, agriculture, and biotechnology by enhancing and promoting the understanding of biological systems. New expanded versions are released three times per year.
