Changes to Canadian Electronic Library (CEL) Access and Subscription

Post Date:
Jan 9, 2020

As of Jan. 1, 2020, Queen’s University Library no longer subscribes to the Canadian Electronic Library (CEL), as the vendor has substantially changed the terms of the agreement. This database provided a single point of access to freely available content on the open web. CEL content through 2019 continues to be available through Scholars Portal (Canadian Public Documents Collection and Canadian Electronic Library for ebooks), a platform from the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL), and searchable through our library system, Omni.

The Queen’s University Library joins several other Ontario libraries in cancelling our subscription and library staff have been actively working on a pilot with provincial colleagues to provide similar government and related literature to ensure predictable access to freely available content on the open web. More information on this initiative will be posted as it becomes available. Please contact the library’s Open Government Librarian or your subject librarian for assistance in locating materials post-2019.
