Library services from January 4 to 25

To comply with provincial orders, study space will not be available when we return from the holiday break on January 4. We expect seats will not be available until January 25. More information on the impact of the province-wide shutdown and its impact on Queen’s will be available in the New Year. 

Here's what to expect from us in January: 

  • No seats will be available for booking until further notice. 
  • The Adaptive Technology Centre and Queen’s Research Data Center will also be closed during this time, with center staff available remotely. 
  • In-person consultations by appointment for faculty and students are temporarily suspended. We will continue to offer online consultations in archives and special collections from Monday to Friday. 
  • Online resources (e-journals, e-books, databases, etc.) continue to be available to support the university's academic and research mission. 
  • Access to materials from our print collections continues to be available via our curbside pickup, scanning service and HathiTrust.  
  • Reference and instruction services will continue to be provided remotely.

Curbside pickup 

Access to materials from our print collections is available to all current Queen’s students, faculty, and staff using the Request feature in our Omni search tool.  

Materials will be retrieved on a first-come, first-serve basis, and users will be notified by email when their item(s) are available for pickup at Stauffer Library.

Important note: Items available electronically through HathiTrust's Emergency Temporary Access Service are not eligible for the library's curbide pickup service, as per the agreement terms with HathiTrust. 

Scanning service for print collections 

Use our scanning service  for a single book chapter or journal article or similar fair dealing amount. 

HathiTrust 

The library is a member of HathiTrust   and has activated the HT Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS) for current faculty, students and staff. 

Course reserves 

The library’s eReserves service is being used to support online course readings. We will continue to fill eReserve requests throughout the term.

Archives and Special Collections 

In-person consultations by appointment for faculty and students are temporarily suspended.  

We will continue to offer online consultations in archives and special collections from Monday to Friday. 

Research Consultations 

Faculty, staff and students are invited to use our Ask Us service or contact subject librarians, archivists and rare books & special collections staff with your research and learning questions. 

Instruction 

The library will be offering instruction remotely. Please contact your liaison librarian, archivists, or special collections staff to make arrangements.
