Identifying CANMARC Copy

In order to identify CANMARC copy, check tag 040. CANMARC copy has been given a code beginning with "Ca" as source. If "DLC" appears after |d the item has been revised by the Library of Congress, and it may be catalogued as LC copy.

The section on General Guidelines for Handling Cataloguing Material should be consulted for information on what material to pass on to a librarian.

If anything on the copy appears questionable, refer the problem to a librarian.

Joint McGill-Queen's publications CANMARC copy comes with the location in the 008 field and in the Publication field (tag 260) coded for Quebec. In order to bring out the local connection, we edit the copy as follows:

At one point we also changed the PLACE code of the 008 field to kin; however, we are no longer following this practice.
