Material Routed Directly to Education

The following materials should be sent uncatalogued directly to the Education Library. If there is an acquisitions record online, add a note saying exactly where sent, date and initials. If you have doubts about an 'item in hand' fitting these categories, consult the Education Library liaison.

  1. Answer keys.

  2. Curriculum material published by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

  3. Non-print material.

  4. Most combinations of print and non-print material, unless the non-print material is an insignificant part. For books with computer diskettes, see Education Library Multimedia Materials section of manual.

  1. Student manual.
  2. Student workbook.
  3. Teachers guide (NO apostrophe)

Periodicals

Education Library periodicals were formerly classed in LC call numbers. In 1999 it was decided to arrange the bound periodicals in Education in alphabetical order, and a project was done in Cataloguing to change the call numbers in the Holdings records to PER (though the LC call numbers were retained in the Bib record).

In December 2004, the decision was made to change the phrase call number to "Shelved by title". There should not be a period at the end; the 852 field must be coded with first indicator 8.

Learning Resources Collection

The Education Library has a small collection called the Learning Resources Collection, catalogued in-house and used as examples of lesson planning. Sometimes a second copy of one of these works is acquired for the main Education Library stacks and sent to Cataloguing. These are done normally, as an added copy (copy 2 in stacks), except that the notes and subject headings added at Education (e.g. 650 0 Lesson planning) should be kept. Either do not overlay, or overlay and add Education's subjects and notes back in.
