Education Theses

Education theses should be treated in the same manner as other Queen's University Theses, with the following exceptions:

Education theses are usually received before the Archives copy; check the data base to make sure that all copies are catalogued on a single record.

If the Education theses is received first it is likely that the ISBN will be unavailable; this will need to be added to the record when the Archives copy returns from the National Library of Canada.

Education Library materials receive separate copy numbering. Also, the staff in the Education Library will add an author cutter number to the call number for their theses, when they are received at Education. After this is done the call numbers for Education theses will be unique, but not when they leave Cataloguing:

852 8_ |b ed,n |h Thesis MEd

When doing the Education Library's copy of the thesis, do not delete the 007, 533 and 830 fields; assume that the microfiche copy will come later with the Archives copy.

Item Type for an Education Library copy should be non-circ.

If the Education theses is received first, it should be sent to a librarian to have subject headings added to the record. Treat the Holdings record as described in Queen's University Theses.

Education Projects

The Education Library also catalogs their Projects. The template for these records, called BibEd Project, includes the appropriate 502 and 710 tags. These books are usually bound in blue. Check the location flag and title page for the designation "Project".

The call number and designation for these materials is as follows:

852 8_ |b ed,n |h Project MEd

Again, Education Library staff will add unique numbers on the end.<>

These material are not sent to Archives or to the National Library for microfilming; therefore do not assume that there will be a microfiche copy, or that there will be an ISBN number.
