Data Analysis

In addition to the aggregate report, ARL supplies the library with their own raw survey data in Comma Separated Values (CSV) format so that they may do additional analysis if desired.  CSV is a delimited data format that has fields separated by commas and records separated by new lines.  CSV files can be opened automatically by Excel for analysis.  ARL also supplies your survey data in SPSS format upon request.  SPSS is a powerful, widely used statistical analysis program.  ARL offers annual workshops in LibQUAL+ data analysis with SPSS:

Each library's free-text comments are available for downloading, from ARL, as the surveys are completed. The comments files, with each respondent's demographics and their comments, are also available in CSV format.

To further analyze the numerical data:

  • MS Excel

  • SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences)

To analyze user comments:

  • Any other database or spreadsheet software
