Digital Humanities Undergraduate Assistantship

The Digital Humanities Undergraduate Assistant undertakes a project in relation to the collections of W.D. Jordan Rare Books and Special Collections. Project details will be determined collaboratively by the student and the Curator of Rare Books and Special Collections.

Conservation Graduate Assistantship

The Archives and Special Collections division hosts one part-time Conservation Graduate Assistantship, which is open to students from the Queen’s University Art Conservation Graduate Program during the Fall/Winter terms. The assistantship is intended to expose students to a variety of situations in the field. Whenever possible, assistantships will be arranged to suit the interest and abilities of individual students. The Conservator in collaboration with the Archivists, Curator, and staff would identify and supervise the work. Periodically there will be QUL-wide projects for these interns.

Teaching with Special Collections

We welcome undergraduate and graduate class visits. We offer instructional sessions using rare books and special collections materials in either our Seminar Room (the Graham George Room) or our Reading Room depending on availability.

Access & Reproduction in Special Collections

Rare Books and Special Collections at Queen's University Library are available to all interested researchers, whether or not they are affiliated with Queen's University. The materials may be photographed under the following conditions:

Reading Room Guidelines

Queen’s University Library’s Rare Books and Special Collections are available to all researchers, whether they are affiliated with Queen's University, or not. Due to preservation concerns for materials, we limit what can be brought into the reading room. We want you to interact directly with original materials while keeping them well preserved for future generations. The materials are for use only in the W.D. Jordan Special Collections Reading Room, under the supervision of library staff and subject to the following conditions:

Microforms

Our microform collection contains newspapers, magazines, academic journals, university theses and government documents. These images are scans of the original and have been reduced and transferred to microfilm reels, microfiche sheets or microcards.

Newspapers

We have access to local, national and worldwide newspapers from historical times to the most current. A few are available in print and many more online through databases.

Guides

Databases

We subscribe to many news databases, both current and historical. Go to the Newspapers guide to find today's newspapers, ones from several weeks ago or from the 17th to the 20th century.

Images

Images can be used in teaching, research and study and the following subject guide will help you to locate a variety of visual materials in the Library and on websites.
