COVID-19 Updates

During this time, our library services and operations are being updated regularly. Please see our COVID-19 Updates on Library Services & Operations page for the latest information.

Library Spaces

We are excited to invite the Queen’s community to once again visit Stauffer Library without advance booking, up to 50% seating capacity for studying and to browse the stacks beginning August 16. Hours from August 16 - 28 will be Monday to Thursday, 8am - 10pm and Friday and Saturday, 8am – 5pm.

Bracken Health Sciences, Douglas, Education (tentative), and Law libraries will open on Monday August 30, 2021. Hours will posted on our website soon.

Please note that legislation requires everyone to wear a mask and you are also required to provide confirmation that you have passed the Queen’s University SeQure app self assessment COVID-19 screening before coming to campus and entering the library. You are also responsible for respecting distancing when you encounter those who are not in your immediate household/bubble.

Archives & Special Collections

Queen's University Archives and the W. D. Jordan Rare Books and Special Collections are taking bookings for individual access by appointment. Researchers can consult collections by appointment between 9 am-noon, and 1-4 pm. The number of appointments is limited to due to distancing requirements in the reading rooms. Once distancing requirements cease, normal operations will resume.

Please contact us via email at archives@queensu.ca or at jordan.library@queensu.ca. Due to limited resources, we cannot conduct detailed research for you and responses may be delayed. However, we can tell you whether we hold records that are relevant to your enquiry or advise you of possible alternative sources.

Curbside access to print collections

The last day for curbside pick-up will be Saturday August 28, at which time you will be able to access the stacks and check out books (August 16 at Stauffer Library). From August 16 to 28, curbside pickup will be at the service desk in Stauffer instead of in the rotunda.

Scanning service for print collections

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the library introduced our scanning service for a single book chapter or journal article or similar fair dealing amount, subject to copyright. With the stacks re-opening in Stauffer Library on August 16 and in most other libraries on August 30, you are welcome to retrieve the materials that you need in-person. As of August 28, this service will be offered to students, faculty, and staff who are unable to pick up their print materials onsite.

HathiTrust

The library is a member of HathiTrust and activated the HT Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS) for current faculty, students and staff when library stacks were closed due to COVID-19 pandemic. On August 16, we will deactivate the HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS) as the summer term 2021 will have concluded, and Stauffer Library stacks will re-open for browsing.
