University Librarian's Message

Vice-Provost and University Librarian, Mark Asberg

The library is central to the educational and research missions of Queen’s University. From the magnificent, award-winning Stauffer Library to our impressive archives, unique special collections, and the virtual resources and services, we see the impact of the library on our community every day.

Library Leadership Team

The Library Leadership Team facilitates connections across the Library’s functional divisions, in support of Library services and operations. It makes decisions on policies and initiatives that impact multiple divisions and provides input to the OVPUL. The Library Leadership Team consists of the Vice-Provost and University Librarian, the Associate University Librarians, and Heads of functional divisions and units. The Administrative & Finance Assistant, Business Officer, Communications Coordinator, and Human Resource Officer are resources to the team.

Office of the Vice-Provost and University Librarian

The Office of the Vice-Provost and University Librarian (OVPUL) is responsible for the administration of the library: strategic planning, project management and assessment; human resources management, health and safety; staff training and professional development; financial management; facilities management; communications strategies; advancement; external collaborations and partnerships.

Administration & Governance

The Library reports to the Provost and Vice-Principal Academic through the Vice-Provost (Digital Planning) and University Librarian. Its organizational framework provides strong connections with each Faculty as well as strong functional expertise in the development of the outstanding information resources, services, systems and spaces required for an outstanding balanced academy. Queen’s is the Canadian research-intensive university with a transformative student learning experience, and the Library is integral to that vision.

Planning & Assessment

Queen’s University Library’s network of experts and its physical and digital resources, collections, and spaces, provide in-depth support for the research, teaching, and learning activities undertaken across all disciplines. The library’s long-standing presence at the center of campus life fosters academic success, promotes research excellence, and cultivates human connections with diverse forms of information and knowledge.
