Queen’s University’s new copyright policy has been approved and is in effect. The Copyright Compliance and Administrative Policy is a university-wide policy that assigns roles, accountabilities, and authorities to govern compliance with the Copyright Act. It also:

  • outlines the university’s position with respect to the acceptable and responsible use of copyright-protected works;
  • outlines the responsibilities of members of the university community who use copyright-protected works;
  • provides a framework for responsible practices with respect to the use of copyright-protected works and the prevention of copyright infringement;
  • encourages the use of the library’s Course Reserves service;
  • includes language from the United Nations’ Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples with respect to the use of Indigenous works of cultural expression, traditional knowledge, and cultural heritage; and
  • is accompanied by Appendix A: Fair Dealing Requirements for Educational Copying which replace the previous Fair Dealing Policy.

The copyright-related FAQs in the library’s new FAQ Knowledge Base reflect and link to the new copyright policy and policy-related edits and updates have been made to the Copyright & Fair Dealing pages within the library’s website. A new Copyright Advisory Office webpage, accompanied by new resources, will be available when the library’s redesigned website launches this summer.

Any copyright-related questions can be directed to Meaghan Shannon, Copyright Librarian: meaghan.shannon@queensu.ca or the Copyright Advisory Office: qcopy@queensu.ca
