Overdue Items & Fines, Lost or Damaged Materials

Overdue items and fines

Overdue notices are sent, Monday to Friday, as a courtesy to remind borrowers of a missed due date. The overdue notice does not absolve a borrower of responsibility to return or renew materials. For Queen’s students, faculty and staff, the email address used for all Library notices is the patron’s Queens’s NetID.

We charge overdue fines for all overdue materials, recalled items and Reserves.

Types of Material Fine
Regular Loans $0.40 cents per day per item
Recalled items $1.50 per day per item
Reserves items

1 or 3 hour loans: 2 cents per minute

1 day or 24 hr loans: check with each location

3 or 7 day loans: check with each location

Lost Materials / Replacement Charges

Failure to return material or a book that is overdue by 30 days will have a lost status applied to your account. Please report lost materials to the Library Services Desk promptly.

Damaged Materials

With the exception of regular wear and tear, damaged library material should be reported to the Information desk prior to checkout. The material will be stamped indicating that the damage has been noted before you borrowed it.

If an item is returned in damaged condition, you will be charged either the cost of repairs or the actual cost of replacement.
