General Purpose:

To meet the needs for teaching and research to the level of a Master's degree in Art Conservation. To meet requirements for basic faculty research and professional development.

Languages:

Priority in order: English, French, Italian and German, other(s) as circumstances warrant.

Geographical Areas:

Worldwide.

Chronological Limits:

None

  • Books: treatises; monographs; bibliographies; laboratory and studio manuals; handbooks and data compilations; conference and symposium proceedings; catalogues
  • Serial Publications: series; periodicals
  • Offprints and pamphlets
  • Exhibition catalogues
  • Multimedia (DVDs, VHS tapes, etc.)
  • Indexing, abstracting and full text services
  • Other Resources: Since conservation is an interdisciplinary subject, extensive use is made of library holdings in other areas such as: Archaeology, Anthropology, Art History, Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Fine Arts, Geology, Geography, Metallurgy and Physics.

Areas to be collected at level B:

  • Conservation of cultural property: publications dealing with the preservation, conservation or restoration of objects and structures of artistic, historic, ethnographic and archaeological significance.
  • The University Archives may collect some manuscript material in this field.

Areas to be collected at Level C:

  • Technologies: selected publications or manuscripts (manuscripts housed in Queen's Archives) dealing with the preparation and utilization of paint, paper, wood, metals, leather, textiles, ceramics and glass, inks, bone and ivory, stone, horn, dyes, traditional building materials.

Areas to be collected at level D:

  • Materials science: selected publications dealing with coatings, corrosion, adhesives, colour measurement, identification of materials, polymer properties.
  • Museology: selected publications dealing with museum design and environment, and care of collections
