In this exhibit, W.D. Jordan Rare Books and Special Collections in Douglas Library presents a sample of items from the Gothic Fantasy Collection. The bulk of the collection was acquired by Queen’s Library in 1967, from Jack’s Book Store in Toronto. Much of the original collection had belonged to Norman Lamb, a Toronto civil servant and book collector. In total, the collection numbers almost 6,000 items, including novels, monographs and magazines. Many of the magazine titles include complete runs. A few years after the original acquisition, the English Department (under the guidance of Dr. Charles Pullen) and the Queen’s Library collaborated on the purchase of a further two hundred items, including many works by Howard Phillips (H.P.) Lovecraft.
