Undergraduate research is once again being shared and celebrated live and in person in 2023. The 17th annual Inquiry @ Queen’s Undergraduate Research Conference returns to Queen’s University Library (QUL) March 9 and 10, following two years as a strictly online event. The theme for 2023 is “Misinformation: Rogue Inquiries”,  and seeks to explore the impacts and prevalence of misinformation and disinformation in today’s hyperconnected world.

QUL is delighted to be welcoming undergraduate students to Joseph S. Stauffer Library for two full days of novel and enlightening presentations spanning a diverse array of topics and mediums. Conference attendees will have the opportunity to take in a keynote address from Amarnath Amarasingam, entitled: Dangerous Conspiracies: When Do Bad Ideas Become Violent? The talk will begin at 10:30am on Thursday March 9th in Stauffer 014 and all are welcome to attend .

Professor Amarasingam’s research focuses on terrorism, radicalization and extremism, conspiracy theories, online communities, diaspora politics, post-war reconstruction, and the sociology of religion. He has published two monographs and co-edited another, along with numerous peer reviewed articles in academic publications. He has written for notable news outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, Politico, The Atlantic, and Foreign Affairs as well as being interviewed on CNN, PBS Newshour, CBC, and BBC.
