Geological Sciences

The Geological Sciences liaison librarian is available for research consultation and can help you design research strategies, access key databases, effectively use the information resources of Queen’s University Library and beyond, and stay current in your field. 

Discipline and course specific research skill instruction can be provided. AGU Digital Library

Publication coverage: 1896 - present

The American Geophysical Union Digital Library includes journals spanning a wide range of topics in earth and space sciences.

Encyclopedia of Quaternary Science

Publication coverage: Published 2013

The second revised edition of the Encyclopedia of Quaternary Science provides both students and professionals with an up-to-date reference work. Contains about 375 articles,and more than 3,000 illustrations.

GEOBASE

Publication coverage: 1974 - present

GEOBASE consists of the latest information on the earth sciences, ecology, geology, human and physical geography, and environmental sciences, focusing on, and highlighting, the human and social impacts on both.

GeoRef

Publication coverage: Geology of North America: 1693 - present ; Geology worldwide: 1933 - present

Established by the American Geological Institute (AGI) in 1966, GeoRef indexes over several thousand journals in 40 languages as well as books, maps, reports, most U.S. Geological Survey publications, and American and Canadian masters and doctoral theses.

GEOSCAN Database

Publication coverage: Varies by publication

Comprises more than 45,000 records of publications released by Canada Centre for Remote Sensing (CCRS) or Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) authors.

GeoScienceWorld

Publication coverage: Varies by publication.

GeoScienceWorld (GSW) is a full-text resource for research and communications in the earth sciences, which is built on a core database of 46 peer-reviewed journals and is integrated with the GeoRef index.

IMMAGE Online

Publication coverage: 1979 - present (updated frequently)

A reference database for the international minerals industry run by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining Online.

Lyell Collection

Publication coverage: 1811 to present, depending on publication.

The Lyell Collection represents one of the largest integrated collections of online Earth science literature available with >18,000 articles. Images and datasets are also available.

OSTI.GOV

Publication coverage: 1947 - present

This web portal, formerly known as SciTech Connect, contains more than 3 million references (445,000 full-text) to reports, articles, patents, datasets, presentations, software, and other scientific and technical information arising from research supported by the U.S. Department of Energy.
