Join us as we celebrate Freedom to Read Week (Feb. 23 to March 1) with a Read-a-Thon on February 28 at the Central Branch of Kingston Frontenac Public Library (KFPL).
We are teaming up with KFPL, St. Lawrence College Libraries, and Massey Library, Royal Military College of Canada/ Bibliothèque Massey, Collège militaire royal du Canada to host a Freedom to Read-a-Thon on Friday, Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Freedom to Read Week is an annual event that encourages Canadians to think about and reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom. Libraries have a responsibility to safeguard and provide access to expressions of knowledge, imagination, ideas and opinions. KFPL supports the fundamental rights of intellectual freedom, freedom of the press and equitable access to library services.
Beginning at 10 am, all are invited to hear community members, library staff and local leaders read excerpts from books that have been previously banned or challenged. Notable guests include Mayor Bryan Paterson, Rowena Whey, and from Queen’s University Library: Mark Asberg, and Michele Chittenden.
